About ClubMap:

Clubmap logo
Founded in 2006 by a group of UC Irvine students, ClubMap’s mission is to develop a yearlong enrichment program that will help English limited students prepare for college. Through after school workshops and presentations, we hope to help these students become more involved, practice their English, and gain self-esteem.

Our club is unique in that we focus beyond academic tutoring – we also mentor students, build a bond with them, and acquant them with options for college. Though there are academic and career counselors available, most ESL students are timid and do not receive adequate attention. As mentors, we want to provide them that attention, motivation, and help to develop a career or education plan.

The club has now taken on a more supportive role by offering students this Opportunity Scholarship to further their educational pursuits.

Our team:

Victoria Nguyen graduated from UCIrvine in 2007 with honors and is a member of Phi Beta Kappa.  Victoria is currently a third year medical student at Oklahoma University.
Brian Luong graduated from UCIrvine in 2007 with honors. Brian is currently a third year in the joint DMD-MBA program at Harvard University.

About the Opportunity Scholarship:

Club MAP (Mentorship to Achieve Progress) invites junior and senior high school ELD students to apply for this Opportunity Scholarship. Applicants will be asked to discuss challenges that they have faced and how they have overcome them. Winners will be selected based on improvement throughout their courses, which will be demonstrated by their transcript and ELD teacher’s recommendation.

Two scholarship recipients will be awarded $150 to be used towards college preparation materials, including books and college application fees. This scholarship also includes a free tutoring course in Math or English, courtesy of our sponsor, A+ Tutoring Center.

“I’m now attending at Santa Ana College and doing well in school. Every thing is going perfect to me except my English. I can’t communicate well with my classmates, but I am trying to improve it day by day. It was really good to receive the scholarship last year. Thank you for that opportunity because after that, I have more confident on myself.”

Post-grad update: “I’m at OCC now. Community college is a great opportunity to get credit needed for transferring to a UC school. I love the college environment – people are more mature.  My major is chemistry so I am taking general chemistry. The most challenging thing about college is you don’t have a lot of help or attention like in high school. Overall, college is FUN!”
